Dear All,
i'm considering to buy an iphone for ipod/wifi use until an unlock is (hopefully) out.
Considering that i live in Europe, and would plan in the future to use it either with a normal SIM or with future Euro carrier (Swiss or Italian), i have the following questions:

1- If you activate it with the "DVD-Jon"/other hacks method, are you able or not to get back the phone to its original out-of-box state? Im asking this because if worse come to worse (no unlock) i would need to sell it on Ebay to an American customer. And there is a post about a guy that has the iphone frozen that is really worrying, especially considering that i would be in Europe, with no Apple assistance.
2- If i manage to have an american credit card, can somebody confirm 100% that i can buy a plan from AT&T and then cancel it? This should give me an activated ipod/wifi without any risks for future sell-backs to US customer. I think this is by far the best solution (if possible), and dont understand why is not the only one used.
3- A DVD-JON/other hacks activated iphone can sync without problems to a Mac Itunes?
4- Aren't you guys worried about a very simple thing? Once itunes gets updated to 7.4, or an iphone (much needed) update comes out, im really scared that the update will mess up the hacked phone big time.

2. You dont need an american credit card to buy an at&t plan

but you do have to use a fixed address in the united states and also need an ss number.

I'm in Belgium, got iPhone over eBay from US
as Mac user, I did not use DVDJohn, but Anderson's activation same, but easier interface
I was able to use all functions of iPhone, except Phone, SMS and YouTube ! everything else worked 100%
In m search to further explore the system, I have done 2 "restores" from within iTunes = downloading in iTunes of "image" from Apple site, restore iPhone into factory default mode, no problem, everything's "fresh"

Same here, Hacktivated it using DVD jon, restored then did it on my Mac.. so far so fine!

I used dvd john activation- sold the phone to get the 8g and know my friend activated the phone with att with no problems.
