I use Macs and not Windows - the dev team use Macs as well and so the supported tool 'iPHUC' that is now the correct tool to use for jailbreaking the iPhone is currently Mac-only IIRC...
However this Hack the iPhone - Windows Jailbreak site has a step-by-step instruction for jailbreaking using Windows - it's very clear and hopefully won't be out of date.
If there is a Windows binary of iPHUC available anywhere then use that - it's the supported tool that the dev team recommend. The original 'jailbreak' program used a vulnerability in one of the firmware restore files, so ensure your jailbreak version matches the firmware version you're using so the crack can work.
Though it does have to be said that this is all available if you search, or even just look at the iPhone Dev Wiki.....

no
Activate, make sure you have sync'd with iTunes if you have anything on the iPhone you don't want to lose, then try jailbreak. If anything goes wrong, you can always restore your phone and try again.
