Really? Let me turn on PUSH on the phone and see what happens.

    Edit:

Nope! Push not working on my end. I have the total internet plan too. I know that new Android phone from T-mobile has Gmail Push. Not sure if the Mail.app on the iPhone has looks for the PUSH server automatically regardless of the e-mail service.

Starting in early November all you folks in United Kingdom will have access and Germany, Austria, Czech Republic and the Netherlands can expect their release in the first quarter of 2009. The G1 features WiFi and 3G radios, a 3-megapixel camera, and support for the Android Market and Amazon's mobile MP3 store, giving owners apps and tunes on the go. i don't think that push is enabled on mail.app for gmail.
when you go in the push settings, i can set push on for my exchange, but for gmail i can only set it to automatically check for a new email.

i will try to see if it works on my phone, but i doubt it will

it seems like it has some sort of push enabled
    i guess i was wrong.
sent myself a test message, and it showed on the phone a minute later....
sent a couple more after a minute, and a bit later they showed up also.

Well it is not working on my side. Not getting any notifications. Maybe this is like when IMAP was first deploid by Google, not everyone had it and it took a while to trickle down the accounts.

I'll leave the PUSH setting on my phone for a week and see what happens.

Android uses as Mail app the Web version of GMail (think of a masquerade GMail opened on Safari). And Mail app reads messages directly from database, instead of an IMAP server. Thus, still no Push for IMAP users but a "fake push" via Web client.
