Default PSS SIM kit from Parker, another rip off?

Guys, just to draw your attention to what looks like yet another rip-off, this time from Parker. He's been selling these items for $120 previously, then the price has gone up to $170 for what appears to be a device worth about $6 (we all know what it costs to manufacture something like this in Taiwan)

I know the IPSF guys are selling something yet to appear for $36, but this appears to be just as much of a joke, especially since there are plenty of people willing to do a hardware unlock for $100. Check out the thread excerpt below. Parker, I'm sure you can have a good market for your product and make plenty of money of you don't get stupid with the pricing.

Sounds good that there's another option out there. I was up for buying the Parker dual sim, but he was looking for $170 delivered - that's a bit much when I can get my phone HW unlocked for $100 near me.

Yep, a case of greed I fear - he otherwise sounds like a nice chap too. The laws of supply and demand only stretch so far, especially if people realise the hardware method of unlocking doesn't really require much messing with the hardware.

its not about the device... its about how he's programming it to use the iccid from the at&t sim... if we could figure this out, we can easily use this thing.

Agreed. My point being, people are asking $100 to perform a full HW hack (disassemble iPhone etc). Aren't these guys looking for an excessive profit for asking nearly twice as much to stick a piece of SW on a SIM ? Parker, happy to hear your thoughts, just please don't trot out that your RD& justifies this cost.

absolutely... they are charging way too much... the reason being there's no1 out there as a competition... and now that we have some evidence that this thing is just $6 they wont come out and say anything...

and also about the timezone crap... dude.. im in the same timezone as they are... its 2:20am here..

Until a software unlock comes out, these sellers can sell whatever they want, for whatever price. It's all about supply and demand. It all comes down to how bad you want to unlock your iPhone. Right now there are 3 public types of unlocking:

    1. Hardware
    2. TurboSIM / Sim cloning
    3. Modified PSS SIM Kit / Hyper-Card

All these types of unlocking come with a price, and since there is hardly any competition right now, they can charge what they want. Sure you can get your iPhone hardware unlocked for around $100, but you will always know your phone had been opened up and tampered with, and it's easy to see the warranty has been voided. With the other two SIM methods, you can pretty much do a full restore and your iPhone will be exactly the way it was when you opened the box. It all depends on how much you want get your iPhone unlocked, and HOW you want it unlocked.

Starsky, fair enough. On reflection I agree with you.

It's an interesting dynamic though, lots of manufacturing jobs in the US have been lost as we all in the US want consumer products as cheap as possible - so we outsource the work to the far east.

Then someone in the US designs and launches a great device, and can sell it in the US cheaply due to it being manufactured in China. But it's locked, and people in the US spend a considerable sum (look what $170 USD will buy you in Taiwan) to unlock it.

    From the taiwanese govenment website:
    http://www.gio.gov.tw/taiwan-website...&a/page_07.htm

What is the average annual income in Taiwan?
The per capita national income in Taiwan for 2001 was US$12,941.

And you think the IPSF guys are being greedy . . .

I'm not blaming anyone from the east, or anywhere else, my brother lives in China and I've got many, many friends in India. Just pointing out the financial realities around this.

I know where you're coming from, but if you think I'm having a dig at anyone based on their nationality you're very mistaken, again just pointing out the facts.
