What´s the status on Apple Store´s restrictions?

At this point, how many iphones can one buy at the Apple Stores, and does it have to be with Visa? Or cash will do?
I am not American, so can not provide any local ID, if needed.

I recently went into an apple store and they required either a state issues ID or a US drivers license. Since I was Canadian I couldn't buy one. I went to 1 apple store & 2 AT&T stores and both refused me service! It sux that we can't just buy them easily :(

That sucks! So I can not be a foreigner who wants to offer one as a gift to an American relative?

Did anyone had the same experience?

Please, i am leaving soon to the US and would really like to know any similar experiences. It doesn´t seem legal to me. (or very smart, also).

you can buy 5 phones per credit card at apple store.

you cant buy any at at&t, they ask for ID.

i'm from UK and i bought my o.t.b 1.1.2 from the apple store in Reno, nv asked for id when purchasing on american express and he accepted my UK drivers liscense.

Most stores in the US want to see some form of id it's not restricted to US only id's just make sure you take your passport, don't understand why they don't use chip and pin like the rest of us!!!

off topic anyone know how to bypass the zip code request at the petrol pump when filling up with a UK credit card in the US?

You can buy up to 5 iPhones. Even if you don't have an id you should still be able to buy it at the Apple Store. Just say you are buying it as gift to a friend.

But don't go to an AT&T store. They want you to activate the phone at the store or they won't sell it to you.
