What good is OneSIM if the phone is still littered with apps?

What good is OneSIM if the phone is still littered with apps?

So I saw that OneSIM has been released which reverses what AnySIM does so that the phone gets to go back to a sim locked state. I understand the reason for creating OneSIM - to give people a chance of restoring the state of their phone to look as normal as possible should they wish to make good on their warranty.

I don't know about some of you - but I have noticed that some apps don't remove themselves properly. So they leave behind files/folders etc. Now if anyone was really smart over at Apple - they could just compare directories to see. It also doesn't help when programs like Installer don't actually have an uninstall option! So you use OneSIM to lock the phone back - but when apple get it - they see a nice installer icon on the springboard - crazy or what? I was even shocked to find that installer allows you to install certain packages such as BSD Subsystem - but not allow you to remove them! What's up with that?

From what I understand "DS_Store" files are the Mac equivalent of windows "thumbs.db". If you look at the folder and sub folders that installer.app creates for itself.. these files are littered everywhere. I find it funny that after installing items through installer - it shows itself "cleaning up" after the install when its own directory is littered with unnecessary files.

What we really need is for someone to create a sort of clean up program that shows whats on the iphone (apps/themes etc) and allows them to be removed so that the files and directories are the same as how the phone should be - well at least as seen in the eyes of Apple. If i was going to return my phone to Apple - I would certainly want all the apps/themes files and folders removed so that the work done by OneSIM is not for nothing. The media staying on there is fine as they would expect that anyways.

if you are so paranoid about apple finding out that you have jailbroken your iphone then please don't install any software. Afterall in theory at least even when you delete a file it is still there on your HDD/Flash Disk till it is physically overwritten

It wasn't about being paranoid with Apple finding out. The bigger point i was trying to make, was about the clutter that was being left behind. OneSIM in itself is a very good tool which does its job, but if you only end up getting busted by Apple support because they saw a couple of folders on the system that clearly pointed out 3rd party use - then even the likes of OneSIM won't be much good.

What I would like to see is that any programs that are installed, can also be removed and that they remove themselves and any other folders/files that they create. Manually trying to do this would be a hit and miss affair especially if you aren't sure what folders certain programs created or where they created them. Ideally i would like to see a program that knows the default files/folders for the specific firmware and when it runs - it just compares what files/folders you have on the phone against it's "clean version / firmware default" image and then removes said folders / files that don't match. It could ignore the media folders for example and then just ensure the only files and folders on the phone - are what where there after the firmware was updated.

I know you could do a restore - but then that makes OneSIMs job obsolete and you also end up losing all your media etc, so it's not necessarily the best solution.

onesim wasn't meant to remove left overs from 3rd party apps. I know what you mean though. Hate it when apps leave traces in random places.

An iTunes "restore" of a 1.1.1 phone will *NOT* relock the phone.
You can restore an unlocked 1.1.1, and just reactivate it, they are still unlocked after a restore.

So if you're concerned about Apple rejecting your warranty claim based on the phone being unlocked, you NEED to relock the phone.

Yepp, run OneSIM, wait til it finishes, then restore, and dont Jailbreak anymore. You can safely return it to Apple, with no traces of files, etc.

I don't want to repeat what the others said, but this is so plain stupid that I couldn't resist to write something in the thread.

OneSIM is meant to reverse AnySIM. What in the world does that have anything to do with the apps that you installed?

Next time, instead of jumping to conclusion that an application is no good, educate yourself first.

As I said in my 2nd post - I know OneSIM's job - and only job - is to restore the phone to a sim locked state. My point was that apps like this are hindered by other app creators, who make us install applications that can't be uninstalled or even if they can - they leave behind files and folders.

So even if you use OneSIM, Apple still has a way of knowing you used 3rd party apps because maybe some app left its folder still on the iPhone.

And to those pointing out that restore doesnt lock the phone. I am aware of all that. The bigger picture I was trying to paint was that it would be nice if app designers could give us ways to remove the stuff they add.

Restore is fine and I guess 8GB is nothing compared to putting back say 80GB of media - but it would be nice if the app designers cleaned up after themselves.

trust me, even if the app were to cleanup completely it would still be very easy for apple to find out, however coming to what you said, i don't think that apple is at this moment bothered about you jailbreaking your phone. what they don't want is to you to unlock..obviously you cannot go to apple and tell them that the accelometer is not working properly as you cannot control labyrinth, at the most what they do is check if you have a att contract and then check your imei no.
