Vodafone Germany: Voicemal notification via SMS works with Vodafone visual mailbox

Vodafone Germany offers a service called "visual mailbox", it's based on MMS.

I know that the iPhone is not MMS capable, but after I switch this service on, the SMS notification works on my iPhone :)

If you live in Germany,
- dial 12051 from your iPhone
- press 1 for switch visual mailbox on
- hang up

during the next 2 hours you will receive a SMS that visual mailbox is now working

All existent voicemails stays on the system and you can call your voicebox as usual.

Hope this helps, but unfortunally only for iPhone user in Germany

Thought I'd check this with UK Vodafone for laughs.

12051 got me straight through to a bemused network support engineer :) since 1205 is the network support number for UK Vodafone. After explaining I was hacking the iPhone and having some fun with it, he agreed to take a look at my settings and clarify a few things.

Firstly MMS is *activated* on my account and should work with other phones. I'm not getting the SMS voicemail notifications though, so this must be a German thing and not a Vodafone-specific thing.

Secondly, I'd also been told by my account manager that UK Vodafone were in the process of upgrading their voicemail notification system to something similar to Orange's (i.e. shows an icon on your phone saying you've got voicemail), rather than calling back or sending SMSes. The engineer asked around his office and nobody knew anything about it, so perhaps this is bogus info as well.

So for UK Vodafone users, it appears that whilst easy to bind the voicemail button to the Vodafone Voicemail number, notification is still not possible on the iPhone current firmware :(

Perhaps the new firmware that will no doubt accompany the UK iPhones may fix this bug (and the other bugs relating to international dialling codes), but that's russian roulette regarding whether the upgrade will re-lock or completely brick phones....

Just tried it with Vodafone Germany and works like a flaw - just as described! Maybe now this is a basis to get the "real" voicemail working as well. There are a couple of threads in the forum on this but no breakthrough as far as I consider...

Does anybody know if there is a VM number with Vodafone Germany that could be assigned to the VM button?

@scuderia If you dial *5005*86*5500# and hit call it will make your voicemail button dial your voicemail. I'm trying the Vodafone visual mailbox tip to see if I start getting notification sms's

this is great. but where can I edit my voicemail number? when I hit the voicemail button, it says "the number you have dialed, has not been..."

use search function and type voicemail,
u´ll find several thread with solution for this!

I waited 2 hours, but I got no sms and notification don't work. When I call this number, it says visual mailbox enabled.....

Did you use anysim or ipsf?

12 hours later I got the SMS from 121 that my visual mailbox is now activated.

Tried it, but still no notification... :(
