Very basic NooB question

I have a iPhone 2G that has been jailbroken and unlocked using pwnage and is running OS 3.0. I had been ignoring the iTunes warning to upgrade the software when I would sync.

Recently i bought the iPod touch 4.0 and have it running the latest OS through iTunes. When I synced the device, iTunes loaded the newest OS. Since then I have not synced my iPhone.

If I attempt to sync the iPhone, will it automatically try and install the latest software? I only have 1 iTunes account and am afraid to brick my iPhone.

Basically I want to sync so I can copy over all my contacts (which for some reason will not sync to my iPod).

the 2G is nearly impossible to brick so don't worry so much.
The unlock is permanant, but jailbreak and hacktivation need to be redone after loading a new OS version.

As long as you have working home and power buttons. You can jailbreak and hacktivate after you restore or upgrade to any version up to the last/latest for the 2g iPhone (iOS 3.1.3).

Your iTunes account is not relevant to the issue at hand.

the iPod is not a phone and does not have the contacts/telephone app - that is why you can't sync your contacts to it. Although both devices run iOS, Apple excludes some apps (or changes them) to suit the devices feature set and target market. (iPod app on iPhone, separate apps for music and video on iPod touch, no Phone or messages app on iPod touch or iPad)
