Update OS for unlocked jailbroken iphone 2G

I have what I think is an unlocked and jailbroken iphone 2G. It is running OS Version 2.1 (5F136). I only use the phone for calling and texting. I would like to update the OS to allow for the copy and paste feature. First, how do I make sure the phone is unlocked and jailbroken? And if it is, how can I update the OS?
