which unlock guide to use?

I'm probably getting a friend to bring back an iPhone from the US this christmas, and I can't wait to get my hands on it. in the meantime I've just started looking for guides to unlock the iPhone. but when not having any knowledge about hacking (I don't even know what jailbreak means at this point) it's kinda tricky to choose a guide.

So I want to start a discussion:
1. which guide did you/are you about to use?
2. why did you choose that guide?
3. did you have any problems with the guide during the unlocking? (i.e. have to look stuff up elsewhere)
4. what were the end results? (did you unlock the iPhone? any bugs?)
5. final thoughts about the guide (did it all go smoothly, or do you feel you should've chosen another guide

You should probably wait untill christmass then see what guides are out their. So many people posting so many differrent tutorials its a bit difficult to find the right one if your new to this.
