Tomorrow I Get Activation By AT&T; 3G Question?

Hey Everyone,
I've noticed in my iPhone 3G that when on just a WiFi signal push notifications don't work because when I go into sleep mode it disconnects from the WiFi to save battery power. My question is, once I'm activated will my 3G stay connected so I get all my push notifications from things like Mail and Twitter?

Only if you have signed up for a data plan and enable the 3G/Edge data.

This should all happen automatically if you activate properly with iTunes and an AT&T sim card.
