Theory - Alternative Activation?

I have an idea i want to throw out there before i try it. If it doesn't work i will return the iPhone until the team can unlock it. My goal is to not have to resign a contract.

Step
1. Use the DVD Jon method to acivate the phone. This leaves the phone s an expensive PDA/iPod
2. Next go talk to my friends at RadioShack (used to work there). Log into the cingular system and change the my account to reflect the IMIE and SIM in the iphone.
3. Hope the iPhone will then see the cellular network and be god to go.

Now if i am totally misunderstanding what DVD Jons applicatioin does this won't work. But if all his program does is let the phone get past the fact there is no service contract then it might work.

Also, if this does not work will a simply reset revert the phone back to its origina (and returnable) form. I am willing to eat the restocking fee if this plan sounds possible.

I don't understand. you want to keep the plan you have? you can do that and add $20 per month and then you are good to go.

Well according to the HoFo'ers my type of plan can't have a contract and adding one woudl raise several red flags. So thats why i am eploring other options.
