Rumours regarding Apple's iPhone marketing strategy
Just got this today from "somebody" who was pretty right in the past:
1. the real reason for not allowing third party apps on the iPhone is because Apple wants to offer their own applications through the iTunes shop, apparently a list of utilities, business tools, games, etc. will be available by the end of this year
2. the reason why Apple completely changed the encryption of the new FW 1.1.1 is not to tease hackers or buyers but to slowly introduce a new DRM protection model which would require the activation of a limited amount of iPods/iPhones for DRM protected stuff for each account, similar to the Rhapsody shop. Apparently some of the media providers put Apple under pressure because people seem to download music/TV shows at their friend's/relatives computer to use them on their iPods/iPhones illegally without having paid for them
Again, rumours...take them with a grain of salt. In the past however, this source has been pretty accurate and everything Apple is doing makes sense now.
