[Rogers Canada, Gen 1 iPhone] Can I now use without unlock?
Hey,
I have gen 1 iPhone on Rogers unlocked and working. I was wondering on July 11th when we get the official iPhone 3G, will I be able to use my old Gen 1 iPhone on the rogers network without unlocking it? Meaning if I were to upgrade it to 2.0 software would it just pick up Rogers with no Unlock?
Thanks
Rogers does not support "grey market" phones
http://www.iphoneincanada.ca has a leaked document from a Rogers store that says that Rogers offers no support for "grey market" devices. The document specifically mentions that we cannot use our iPhones on an iPhone plan, because the plan is IMEI-specific.

Our upgrade path will be to wait for the 2.0 jailbreak download, just like jasonsmith says.
It will be good to keep your phone unlocked anyway, then when you travel, you can buy a local pay-as-you-go SIM card and avoid the cost of roaming. Cell phone service outside of Canada is much cheaper overall and way, way, way cheaper than $3-5/minute roaming.
I just hope that the new 2.0 software comes out quickly for us jailbroken users.
