Restoring iPhone completely?

Is there any way to restore an iPhone completely? I've purchased 1 refurbished and 1 new iPhone:

Refurbished iPhone with software unlock via Terminal (Mac) and the 6 files = constant interruption of signal, whether Germany's T-Mobile, Vodafone, O2, E-Plus. It says for a minute or so "T-Mobile," then it goes to 1 bar, then to "No Service." Then the bars go up again and, once again, down -- and so on and so forth. (unlocked it 1 week ago)

New iPhone = Unlock with anySIM. Everything works fine. Constant signal/reception. (unlocked it today)

So, I was thinking: What's wrong with my refurbished iPhone? Is there any way to restore it completely and use anySIM? Or is something wrong with the hardware of the refurbished iPhone that causes the constant interruption of the cell phone signal?

I think it also can be completely restore by using iTunes
1. go to recovery mode by holding SLEEP&HOME keys;
2. connect to iTunes, it'll ask you to restore;
3. press option key on the keyboard, at the same time click on Restore on iTunes.
4. it'll ask you the path of your restore file, it's in ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates. this way it fully restore your iPhone to virgin.

I think that way only partially returns you to virgin state - not completely - and I am not sure the method in iphonegoboom.com in message #2 above is also a complete restore to virgin state.

I have taken a look at the directory /var/root/Library/Lockdown on my own iPhone.

I know if I activated YouTube, I need to replace the files data_ark.plist, device_private.key.pem and device_public_key.pem with the original files. But on my iPhone, there's a sub-directory "pair_records" with several .plist files in them, and an "activation_records" sub-directory with a plist showing the name of my AT&T sim' ICCID.

I have software unlocked my phone and used PACAY. If I want to really return the phone to a virgin state, apart from following the instructions on www.iphonegoboom.com, should I be deleting the two sub-directories "pair_records" and "activation_records")?

Could anyone advise?

restoring in itunes does not install firmware on the baseband if the version is the same. You need to run bbupdater (like the guide mentions)

Does anyone have an idiot-proof guide to restore my iPhone completely? :confused:
