Potential TurboSIM issues to look out for in THAILAND
A heads-up to other peps in Thailand trying to get their iphones working. I have had an AIS (TH GSM) prepay card for a number of years but attempts to get the iphone functioning with the TSIM method didn't work. When I first followed the instructions and saw the TH GSM service provider come up I thought I'd cracked it.
I tested making calls - no problem
Tested sending/receiving SMS msgs - no problem
Tested EDGE - no problem
I kinda of got too exicted and forgot to test incoming calls though - doh!. Anyway, found out that incoming calls weren't working through friends and colleagues the next day, who were complaining that they couldn't contact me. All people would get is a BEEP-BEEP - similar to no longer in service.
I thought maybe it was a contact issue between the TSIM and my AIS card but it wasn't (tried the card under the SIM tray trick & everything) - if it were a contact issue then in my mind none of the other phone feaures would work. I then thought it must be a problem with the applesaft method that i'd used, so I tried the IMSI method but still the same problem.
So I concluded it had to be the SIM card. So I bought another prepay SIM card from DTAC, trimmed the card to piggyback the TSIM, inserted it in to the iphone and hey presto, everything worked :-)
Hope this helps others in Thailand diagnose & fix similar problems with TSIM method not working with AIS.
Pretty peeved that I had to change my phone # but a price I was happy to have paid, until I found out the software unlock is released tomorrow. Won't be holding my breathe for this though - suggest none of you do either.
Anyone needing TSIM assistance here in Thailand let me know - more than happy to help!
