[Negative Black] Possible methods of fixing this goddamn issue...
To find out that a device that you burned a hole in your wallet for has display issues is, quite frankly, unacceptable. My iPhone is unfortunately plagued with this most annoying issue, an issue that many users of both the iPhone and the Ipod Touch share. To find out what this issue entails click here
At the moment there are no apparent fixes for this issue. That's right, no tweaks, no patches. I feel that this issue could be addressed in a number of ways, but only if someone cares to put my methods into practice.
Off the top of my head I can come up with two different ways of alleviating the issue. They are as follows:
The diagram above shows the issue. In a non-defective screen from left to right the shades of gray should become darker and darker until we arrive at black at 'G.' In negative black screen this is not the case and black shows as a lighter shade of 'F.' This is annoying as black is a reoccurring color in most films and videos. A possible method of removing this problem is by forcing shade 'G' to display the same shade as 'F.' Sure, this would lessen display quality but at least I can watch horror films without gray patches glaring all over the place.
Making everything lighter
A different method of resolving this issue is effectively removing 'G' by shifting all shades (in terms of my superb paint diagram) to the right, thereby replacing all letters with a lighter shade, eliminating 'G'. Once again blacks may seem rather washed out but it would be better than not seeing much at all.
This thread's purpose isn't to attract a bulkload of comments like 'Trade it in' as that's not helpful, not constructive and won't see a fix.
Nor is it's purpose is to attract people who will badmouth me about my rather bland terminology such as 'Making everything lighter' as I am not too 'in-the-know' about LCD displays blah blah blah.
It's purpose is to bring hope to people who live and suffer with this issue as it has been kept in the dark for a rather long time with no apparent fix (and yes I did use search!)
Together we can defeat faulty blacks. (Not a racist comment:p )
