Mail Issues

Hi, I'm not sure if anyone has noticed cos I dont seem to find any info regarding this on the forum.

But heres the problem,

When I tried to setup my email IMAP/POP whatever, as well as GMail... it doesnt work.
(I havent tried others but .Mac Mail WORKS)
(and yes, my mail server is on a standard port)

It would attempt to verify my IMAP/POP details... and after a little while it will return unable to connect using SSL, and asks me if I want to try without SSL, so I said yes... and this time a much longer wait... and it will come back with the same question.

So have anyone noticed and found a way around it?
Something I overlooked?

No one else is having this problem? I've used different servers as well and still no luck...

I have the same issue with the POP email, searching for a successful solution...

Yes I had the EXACT same problem and for the lfie of me I couldnt figure out why.

The settings I put in manually just refused to work despite the fact they are identical to the settings in my MS Outlook.


However ....... When I chose the option in itunes to sync the email accounts to the phone, it worked perfectly. Although I dont have an idea why - just tell itunes to sync your mail. It doesnt copy over the email, just the account settings and it all worked perfectly from there

same problem here.

Using t-mobile. My main POPs (all on same server) give the same trouble as exodus_xt noted. Another one of my POPs (different server) set up fine.

I use BarcaMail for mail, but synched "windows contacts" via iTunes to see if that worked. Same verifying/SSL problem as before.

Any ideas? :confused:

I had the same problem - after I answered accidently "No" to the question if I wanna try it without SSL - it worked. Without SSL :-)

No everything is fine.

But i have another "small" problem with mail. When I'm on GPRS and press the reload to manually get mail, the phone needs about 20secs to make the first data transfer. After that it is ok. No problem with GPRS in other applications or mail via WiFi. Any ideas?

I tried "yes" and "no" to SSL. No luck.

I am wondering if downloading/installing MS Outlook might work....?

So frustrating as I set up my non-primary POP account just fine - no problems.

I went ahead and found "Windows Mail" the new version of OE and put in all of my POP accounts. I then when to iTunes to sync. No luck.

I can only find "sync contacts from Windows contacts" (or can choose Yahoo). Is that what you meant by syncing your email accounts?

I had the same problem ("Cannot connect using SSL") with my two IMAP-accounts.

Now they both work ;)

What i did was after you get the "Cannot connect using SSL" it asks if you want to try without SSL, just tap "NO" and then Save. Then it will ask you if you want this and that it might not work, tap "YES".
Go into settings, mail and the new account, advanced: turn SSL off both outgoing and incoming.

That worked for me anyways ...

My troublesome POPs work now too! :)

It took forever to do the 'authentication', then I hit 'save'. There was some warning about it may not work, then I went back in and turned off the SSL for out/in in the advanced panel, and then the POPs worked fine on send/receive.

(FYI - I also edited the SMTP to my server IP, but I don't think that is what got it going.)
