low disk space on 3.1.2 help please

I have a 8 gig iphone 3g on 3.1.2 and its jb and just started today getting low space and tried to download an free app from the app store and says not enough space try to delete photos or video something like that so I ssh'ed to my phone copied the photos and then deleted them and uninstalled a few apps but still made very little space avilable only 225 MB it says in settings I also deleted any ipa's i had on there and still no change. In cydia under storage it says that other is at 91.3% and don't know what it can be eating up the space. I did have navigon installed which was like 1.5 gig's but deleted it. I'm not sure if that was the app that started the problem cause the phone has been fine sense christmas and just installed that app 3 to 4 days ago and then today keep getting low space warning and then I deleted it and another app and deleted ipa's and the iphone crashed and lost all free apps like kingdoms live and others like it and I started seaching the net and got free memory and ran it and all of a sudden the apps reappeared. But still low storage thats when I did the ssh and copied pics and then deleted them and thats when it freed up the 225 MB. So can anyone help me figure out what to delete to fix this or a fix (like a app) that will get the storage back, or some other fix? I really hate restoring and having to install everything again.

i just registered to say i have the same problem. this is the only place on the web ive found so far talking about this problem. i've been searching for hours for a solution....someone help please. Everytime i free up space...it gets used it up.

that worked..thanks bro. i almost updated to firmware 3.1.3 thinking it was an over the air thing by AT&T for jailbroken iphones...lol.

As the above poster mentioned, this is most likely related to Rock. There is a bug in the software that causes an obtusely large log file to be created and stops it from being trimmed. An update to the Rock app has been published that is supposed to take care of this, but ultimately, I'd say just remove Rock and use Cydia -- Rock has habitually had problems with package dependencies and it doesn't play nice with Cydia when they're both installed and used to manage packages. I can appreciate that it is faster than Cydia and that it's nice to be able to queue package installs, but ultimately, you're trading convenience for stability -- and since I'm using this on my daily driver, I'd take stability for the long term win.

Follow the instructions in the link above to remove the Rock log and then I'd recommend removing Rock entirely and using Cydia -- this ensures you have the SHSH signing access if you end up using a 3GS.

Few problems with a fairly new touch.

hey guys, as you have noticed i purchased an itouch a little while ago and it came with the early bootrom, jailbroke it with blackra1n and now im having some problems. All of a sudden my device tells me that it has no gb left, its a 32gb itouch and i only used about 5gb max. Should i restore with redsn0w or something this time? Any help is appreciated. thanks.

Have moved your posting to this thread, I am pretty sure this is your problem. If you have not installed rock.app then you have another problem.
