just a quick question
hey guys, just found this website today and i've been reading around...great info most def.
im not the best with all this tech stuff...so i just wanna clarify if i got things right or not...
i live in Canada and i bought an iphone from the states a while ago....tried to unlock it myself thru jailbreaking it and anysim....however when jailbreaking it...it accidentally updated from 1.0.2 to 1.1.1....:(
i downgraded back to 1.0.2 but im aware the baseband is still at 1.1.1 thats why i can use everything BUT call/sms
sooo...my question: is this iphone team currently working on some hack so that we can downgrade the baseband back to its original 1.0.2 so that we can call agian???............or is my phone dead (in terms of calling/sms-ing) forever?
hope its not the latter one....
thanks guys for answering my question!
my understanding is that the dev team is working on a solution to allow us to ultimately upgrade our phones to 1.1.1 and activate/unlock our phones so that we have full functionality... during that process, they may come up with a solution for people with new 1.1.1 phones or those of you that have upgraded your phones to 1.1.1 to downgrade your phone and unlock their full use...
ultimately though, the goal is to allow people to upgrade and still use their phones.
i don't know how long the unlock will take, but a publicly available jailbreak is coming in, like, the next couple of hours, so 3rd party apps on 1.1.1 will soon be available once they are all recompiled for the new frameworks. That was the first big hurdle towards unlocking 1.1.1, but getting access to the baseband is going to be significantly harder. All in all, the best advice is to stay tuned, but don't hold your breath.
