just something I've always wondered. I looked it up on google, and came up with a few answers, but nothing that really satisfied me. I'm guessing that the touchscreen "sensors" are placed directly underneath the glass screen, and it somehow senses temperature or something along the lines of that. Dunno if this is pointless or considered spam. I'm just curious.
Yea from what I've read, the glass has nothing to do with it because people with broken glass are able to replace it with clear plexi glass and it still works. So all the technology is on the LCD. It just sucks that if you crack your glass you have to buy the FULL LCD because no ones sells just the glass :(.
your skin conducts electivity. (youtrfingernails dont neighter does plastic)
under the glass there are two layers, one with a vertical grid of tiny little wires.
the other with horizontal wires.
whenyou touch the screen your finger lower the resistance between the layers.
this is because the induction (wiki this) and the resistance defference can be measured .
This however works onlywith conducting surfaces likeskin or metall.
This is why its not pressure dependent nor temperature (only that cold skin conducts worse).
you can use the scren with a metall object if the surface is big enough (ie tip of a nail wont work, the head will)
Andin winter we will have problems,we can't use it with gloves (unless special one with metall wires, there are, or if the gloves are thin enough)
