iPhone Stolen while in transit.

Well I had been looking forward to getting my iphone all week. Today I finally thought I would get the chance to play around with it. Well when I went down to my receiving department to pick up my iphone they notified me that they had received an "open box" from UPS. I was like great bad shipping, I am glad there is no moving parts, all solid state memory. Well when I looked in the box the first thing i noticed was the iphone had no clear wrapping around it. When I opened the iphone guess what, no phone! So someone from UPS opened my box and stole the phone! Just got off the phone with apple and they said that the "Fraud Dept" will be contacting my by e-mail. This SUCKS! Has this happened to anyone else with any other apple products?

Call UPS direct, I would raise hell with UPS not Apple.

it was the delivery driver. the wharehouses all have metal detectors and nothing is allowed in or out but you and maybe your wallet. they dont even allow watches much less cell phones or mp3 players and such. atleast that was they way they did things a few years back. add that to the fact that the wharehouse employees dont have ANY time to stop and look at the packages becuase 99% of the time your already behind and your just trying to get done so you can get outta there, it seems HIGHLY unlikely that the theft occured while in the wharehouse.

Thats a good point. Because I don't know how much apple insured the phone for I am going to let them handle the UPS claim. Plus I want to make sure they know about it incase anyone else's got stolen. What made me not think it was the driver is how would he have known it was an iphone?

OK. I am an expert here cause I had this happn in the past.
1) DONT REMOVE ANYTHING!!!
2) Weigh the package and cross check with the weight that was paid for, The tracking number and the shipping lable should have exact weight. if they match then the seller probably sold you an empty box.
3) If they dont then it was probably stolen, I would doubt in the warehouse, probably in transit or in customs (yes i had 30 small bottles of very expensive purfume sent to me in small bottles since each one weighed 12 grams and one was missing they said it was probably the one opened by customes and examined).
4) contact the seller and have him contact UPS, you should have purchased insurance so the seller should call and file a claim, UPS will conact you for your statement and probably send someone to pick up the package (again to weigh it).
5) if the package was indeed stolen during transit they can usually trace it to when it was stolen since the weight has to be checked multiple times durring transit.
In a week the seller should be notified of the results and refunded. (in my case the seller refunded me and asked me to place an order for a new one.)

My recomendation if that happens is not to buy a new one untill you know the new firmware will be unlockable.

I didnt know you got it from apple. Call them and they will send you a new one .. probably on the spot.
I ordered a camera from costo and got a pack of photocopy paper. (so my guess was it was stolen from the costco warehows and someone slipped the paper in just to make it seem he packed it. the weight of the package with paper was exactly the same as the weight it was sipped under. and a friend ordered a camera and got a diffrent one .. al no problems and returned to costo for a refund.
So really there should be no problem .... if you had bought it from ebay then you would have a diffrent problem ;)

Sorry to hear. Same thing happened to me, although the box was sealed (re-sealed). Mine was shipped from Michigan to me in Edmonton via USPS and I only received and empty box after a lengthy stay at customs.

Lucky for me the ebay seller was kind enough to reimburse me my money before he settled it with USPS (took about 2.5 weeks to get my money back). But it worked out good for me as this was before the price drop, so I eventually ended up getting one from a traveling from that was double the memory for 130 less.

I have my sidekick 3 got stolen from UPS driver. The bottom of the box was opened and I didn't know when I signed for the package.
My office got 3 times of UPS fraud drivers already. We ordered Espons' Inkjet cartridges from Office Depot and got all stolen.
