just received my iphone today, i have searched and tried every possible method but with no luck.
when i plug it in my pc, vista installs the devide by searching the windows update, obviously it'll never work.

I use vista and it never used windows update it just came up in itunes straight away no dirver install or driver updating needed. Make sure you use a usb 2 port.
maybe there is something wrong with your itunes, try uninstalling and reinstalling it. and try on another computer to narrow down the problem.
vista first recognises the phone as a camera then when I open itunes it has some iphone bar then it brings up the phone
You might find you have some problem with you applemobiledevice or mobilehelper in itunes
try using itunes 7.4.1 thats what seems to work for everyone.

Did you install iTunes first? If not, you should. Run iTunes and then plug in the phone. Worked for me on Vista.Quote:

remember that very old iTunes version wont recognize iPhone, because thay dont know what an iPhone is...
even without connecting to iTunes, when you connect to the pc via a usb cable, it should start recharging
do you have 64bit vista?? - does not work i think
itunes only supports 32bit as far as i know.
