Iphone in INDIA 2008

Hi, there,

I contacted Apple India,
CC told me that unlocked France iphone won't work in India, 'coz they are country specific,
Iphone India Launch Date: Jan-Apr 2008

Further,
I have someone living in LA, and he's coming to India on 16th Dec,
I have asked him to bring me an Iphone (that will most probably be 1.1.2) and the unlock's not available till now !

India doesn't have 3G, but the process is going on, and by year end, 3G will be launched but i suppose with higher tariff,
So I'm not interested in 3G iPhone,

CC told me to wait for the official Launch.
I'm confused,

Can anybody advice me what to do ?

i am from india, and if you really are interested in having an iphone go for it. dont think about it for too long.

But know that doing anything to your iphone will mean voiding the warrenty, and no support from apple.

Either, go out and get an ipod touch if u dont wanna mess around with the phone and just want to get a feel of the touch interface.

Also, just knw that apple will release the iphone probably in the later half of 2008 in india and not by april like u said. and most probably the carrier will be vodafone not to mention the 2 yr contract.

So Finally i have decided to buy an iPhone,
I Will be getting my iPhone on 16th DEC at price 17K or less (including TAX, but idk how much) but this is the max 430$ in LA.
I think it's the best bet, as of now.
'coz 3G don't know when will come to India, and still if iPhone is released in May'08, I will be still ahead of 6 months from others in using an iPhone ( i guess even if a 3G iphone comes it will be around 660$ or more), and my iPhone at 430$ and 6 months early, that's the best that can happen in India,
also even if unlock comes in a month, it's ok,
also i can use it as iPod touch , also in India iPod touch is like more than 430$, and at less than 430$ i'm having an iPhone,
what else do i need ?

btw, what's the price ofan iphone in LA, including tax.
i.e. 399+ ???(tax)

Congrats on ur decission to get an iphone....

If u know the zip code, u can check the price including tax at Online Apple Store...
