iphone is completely DEAD. can apple store tell that it's been altered?
my wife's iphone just died. it started saying that it couldn't make or receive calls and needed to be repaired. it is unlocked with iunlock, on 1.0.2. i knew that i couldn't just walk in to an apple store and get it serviced. i have been trying to virginize and restore it to give me some better chance of getting service at the apple store... ya know, "i got this as a gift. just opened it, and it won't work..." to get around the whole contract thing.
the phone rapidly declined, and wouldn't function if plugged in. it would work fine if unplugged, but battery ran out quickly. It eventually ended up in recovery mode, so I tried to restore to 1.0.2 but at the very end of the process it said that it couldn't restore the phone. After that it turned off and i can't get it to do anything. plugging into the wall, itunes, trying to reboot. absolutely no response.
So, my question is, will the geniuses have a special utility that will get the thing to turn on and they'll be able to see my baseband has been altered, therefore denying me service/replacement?
