Iphone 3G Restore Errors--What might you do?
Device: Iphone 3G
Itunes Version: Started off with Itunes 9.x (maybe the version from about a year ago). Upgraded to 10.4.0.80 at some point in this process.
Platform: Windows Vista
IOS restore from: I think it was a 3.1 or 3.1.x. I don't know exactly because I did not check settings before I did the Itunes update. Wish I did so I could see the baseband too. Before the Itunes update I tried to download Rhapsody and it mentioned that 3.1 was not sufficient, so this is a clue. The Itunes upgraded to 4.1.2.
Thanks to Olethros for helping me to find Itunes Recovery Logs and to everyone with their sage wisdom on here; it's real humbling! The more you know the more you know nothing at all.
I'm new to this site and found it because I need help. I went on Ebay and purchased a used 3g for now until I can fix my Iphone 4 (screen damage, corroded screws, need new chassis). I needed GPS and streaming music for a road trip so was desperate for something quick.
I'll follow Olethros' good advice and post as much as I can and post the logs. I'm also including the tinyumbrella log in the hopes it helps. Worst case scenario I'll sell this phone on Ebay since I ordered the iphone 4 chassis to rebuild my old phone... but because my cell service is on it now I'm real determined to get it up and going if it's possible. I wish I would have recorded the settings pre-upgrade so I could report/figure it out better, but was ignorant of what could be.
So, I activated the 3G with AT&T and all was perfect. Connected to Itunes 9.x via Windows 7 and it prompted me to upgrade to 4.1.2. I also wanted to download Rhapsody from the app store and it noted that 3.1 was not an insufficient OS. So I thought, "why not upgrade" not thinking there would be an issue.
Upon upgrading, I got a an error 1015 and the dreaded recovery loop. I did the recovery thing a few times before I started doing doing some research online and so upgraded the Itunes to 10.4.0.80, recovered, and still the same thing. Then I leaned about IReb but it did nothing. Then I went to Tinyumbrella and under advanced unchecked the revert to cydia shsh upon exit... and did fix recovery in DFU. This left the screen black for a while and could not see a thing. I then found a posting that stated to put a line at the bottom of my host file (184.108.40.206 gs.apple.com). I did this and launched itunes and at least I got out of DFU mode. Did recovery and I started getting a 3194 error. Did Tinyumbrella "exit recovery" but same thing. I guess the phone is "bricked" and can't do anything and it just wants to connect to itunes to recover. Today I took out the 220.127.116.11 gs.apple.com line and downloaded the 3.1.3 and 3.0 IPSW, and shift-restored from Itunes.
This got me somewhere because the Apple screen came up and started the download/restore process with 3.1.3. Half way in I got an error 1603 and it stopped. I then tried 3.0 and the same thing happened... think that time I got an error 9. I tried restore without shift-clicking, so Itunes would do the latest version... that didn't go very far, had to disconnect, and got an error 1603 again. Then I tried 3.0 and it started going, and I got error 1015 again... so I was happier. I restarted the PC and went to Itunes... but now it doesn't seem to recognize the iphone at all.
I'm grateful to anyone that can help... heck, I'm grateful that you even read this cuz I know you seriously could be doing a lot of other things. I've read some posts so am optimistic because many people on here seem to want to help others; makes me want to want to get better at this and learn how to understand those recovery files better.
