[IMEI] Spoof IMEI for Rogers

Hi,

Rogers (a carrier in Canada) is rumoured (although unofficially confirmed by multiple reps), lowering considerably their rates for data. However, these rates will only apply to phones bought from Rogers, not including blackberries which will have their own price plan. Rogers will know what phone a consumer is using by verifying their IMEI (for instance, if you subscribed for unlimited data and remove the SIM card and insert it into a phone not bought at Rogers, a standard pay per use fee will apply). However, I wish to use that plan on an iPhone.
Is it possible to spoof the IMEI? I have an old Rogers phone I don't use anymore, is it possible to digitally replace the IMEI of the iPhone with that one?

for starters what you are asking for is illegal, second the info posted on that forum is pretty much just the fido plans which isnt in anyway shocking since rogers was way over due for an overhaul.

the $20 pack on there is almost identical the the fido $18 one, the data wont be unlimited though just trust me on that. it most likely ends up being unlimited for 4 months or so and then expect it to be 10mb.
also the fact that it says "mobile browsing" seggests its wap not the real internet otherwise it would be described as unlimited data.

but for argument sake lets say that info is correct, carriers are not dumb and imbed things into the firmware very well. alot more than changing the IMEI would be required to make the data server believe you are using one of thier handsets, things which just arent going to happen through any amount of hacking.

IF this ends up being real unlimited data they wont care what you are using on thier network so long as you give them money, its when they have limitation imposed on this data that you would end up charged for using another device because you didnt go through thier special browser that limits the flow.

The plan is unlimited: that's the attractive part, probably to compete with Bell offering 7$ unlimited (although exclusively for the HTC Touch). Rogers also does not offer it for Blackbereies or foreign phones, however they may only check IMEI at sign up.

However, if Rogers uses smarter phone detection (ie, through IMEI), I should have guessed it was near impossible to fake the IMEI. Well, that sucks, it was a very good deal.

Holy shit thats awesome, finally we'll have reasonable data plans. But yeah I mean if its unlimited they wont care which phone you use unless its not really limited and they want u to use a shitty mobile browser.

The Bell plan is WAP, go on thier site and read the fine print. aswell, on both links posted they throughly discus how its unlimited WAP for this new rogers plan.

so say you get around the whole IMEI checking as soon as you starting downloading half an MB at a time you will get cut off. If you dont think its true wait until the 5th.

Isn't WAP only a protocol? What does it change on the quantity of data you can download (unlimited is unlimited, no?)

the iphone can access wap. use a method similar to the T-Zones hack. It's slower, and a couple of sites dont work, but most do, and its unlimited!

obviously if you are on a WAP portal and the average site size is 10kb and you suddenly pull a few MB down the pipe they will know you arent downloading WAP.

WAP is often referred to as the "walled garden" typically everything is accessed through a portal and the WAP version of the sites are stored on the carriers own servers, thus they arent really providing you with the internet and need only transfer the data of the site once then redistribute it. (not to say that leaving the portal is not possible but its certainly controlled)

I understand why you are excited, but the fact of the matter is that Rogers has never been friendly in these matters and certainly isnt about to. the key here is that it is labeled "mobile browsing". had it used the word "surfing" or "data" it would be the real internet.

More proof would be that the fido package is $18 and comes with 12mb, who wants to bet the rogers plan is soft capped at 12mb? Let's all wait until the 5th to see if I'm correct.

Tomorrow, Feb 5th, Fido will be coming out with an unlimited WAP internet browsing package for $7 per month. Keep in mind, this is WAP, and not internet, meaning that you will have to access through the WAP server (wap.fido.ca) to avoid being charged. On the iPhones, a hack similar to the T-Zones hack will need to be done.

If I understand, it isn't EDGE (meaning no change in the EDGE setting on the iPhone). If it isn't communicating with Rogers cell towers thru EDGE or 3G, how else could it comunicate?
