HELP! Iphone connection Port stuffed - Doesn't charge

Ok, well here's the deal. I have a massive problem with my iPhone. I put it in an aftermarket ipod speaker system with dock and now it won't charge. I know the phone still turns on and isn't ruined because when I put it into the same dock the iPhone says 'please wait...charging' however the phone doesn't charge.

I think the connection port is stuffed up and is the reason why my iPhone won't charge. But as I say, the screen still turns on with the empty battery image but it won't charge.

Would it be possible to charge my iPhone using one of those headphone jack usb adaptors that are available for the iPod Shuffle to charge my iPhone? They're very cheap so I'm just wondering if it will work? Should I try it?

My other problem, would I be able to sync my iphone once i get some power into it using the usb cable or would that also be impossible?


I can't get my iPhone fixed because I unlocked it and I'm in Australia so I'm pretty much screwed unless I find my own way around this problem

the iphone sounds broken to me! if you can't restore then there isn't much you can do, try plugging it into the wall with the AC adapter for a few hours it might come baqck to life. as a reference the iphone isn't compadable with any ipod accessory's especially charging ones.Only use iphone approved add ons

I hope it isn't broken! Wouldn't the iUsb possibly work?

most ipod accessorys won't work, you cannot charge the iphone through the headphone socket

I do not second this statement :) What accessories are you referring to ? The only one I'm aware of right now, is the Nike+iPod, but this is a software issue. If you are referring to the message, the phone is displaying, I think this is simply by design because the iPod used different resistor values to allow the different accessories.

The iPhone is expecting a higher charging current than most of the iPod accessories deliver. According to my firmware examinations the iPhone seems to support two charging modes. (100mA vs. 500mA => Standard USB power vs. High power)


Here is what BMW says to using the iPhone with the adapter cable for the USB audio interface:

the iPhone is charged but due to the fact, that the current is lower than expected, the iPhone doesn't recognize this and therefore it's not indicated with the charge icon.


For this reason, they offer a new version of the iPhone cable for the USB audio interface which should solve this problem. I already bought this new cable but couldn't proof this statement as still the iPhone does not indicate it is charged. Actually I'm in Korea for the next week and can not investigate this further, but I found some indications, that the iPhone can be setup to support the low current charging. More to follow...

So in this case, I do not think that the iPhone is defective, nor the dock connector. Simply use a wall plug charger, maybe even an active (powered) USB hub with the original USB cable should work.

sounds like a deep discharge and your phone will not start booting until charged at least a few minutes (better hours).

Try to put it in the dock but switch it off and leave it there for 1 or 2 hours. If it's true, that with old accessories the iPhone will be charged but without indication and with lower current, it will simply take longer before you will be able to boot. The problem seems to be that the low-current variant is charging more slowly than the phone is consuming.

I had similar situations with my iPod in the past and booting without having charged the batterie for at least a short time didn't work, once it was deep discharged.
