Having trouble downgrading / getting sync cable and itunes icon screen

Hi everyone,

I did something wrong with my unlocked and accidentally updated-to-1.1.1 iPhone, and am now not able to downgrade to 1.0.2. After the restoring ended, I did not get the error msg 1013 but (1) or (6) saying that it could not be restored. Then I get the cable and itunes icon screen, instead of the yellow triangle. This keeps me from activating and jailbreaking (buttons grey) it using iNdependence on my MAC (and for some reason, iBrickr wouldn't work with it on my PC). I was able to put it in DHF mode though.

Could anyone kindly suggest a way to solve this problem—to downgrade it to 1.0.2? I really appreciate your help!

First, download the iPhone1,1_1.0.2_1C28_Restore.ipsw from Apple. Then connect phone to dock, and hold down home button and power button for about 10 seconds until phone turns off. Now release the power button but continue holding the home button. After about 10 seconds the computer will detect the iphone in restore mode, and itunes should tell that the phone needs to be restored. Hold down SHIFT key (Windows) or ALT-key (Mac) when clicking the Restore button, and select the file you downloaded previously. Let the restore complete and ignore the error at the end. Now your phone should show a rectangle, but don't worry about it. Run AppTap to jailbreak your phone - it will fix it even though you get errors.

I did the restoring part, but got stuck at the end of it I guess. I probably got a different error msg than yours. I suppose using iNdependence should be the same as jailbreaking with AppTapp. I'm trying to try apptapp now but it takes more than "2-3 minutes" as suggested in the process window. I tried several times from 5 min to 15 min but not successful. It's not likely to work with this method I guess. Can you or anyone suggest other solutions?

1) Make Sure iphone is off. Open itunes (Ver 7.4.1.2)

2) plug your phone into your PC, and as soon as the gray apple appears, press and hold both power and home buttons. Hold for exactly 10 seconds, then let go of just the power button.(If you look very closely, after about 7 seconds the screen will power down and pixelate, this is the lead in to the hidden restore state.) After about another 15 Seconds of holding down the Home button, itunes will find your iphone and say it needs to restore.

3) Shift - Restore and select the 1.0.2 Firmware. When it completes it will give you "1013" error message, press ok, and do not restore again... Just close itunes.

***From this point on you may have to run apptapp several times, depending on your PC***

4) Open apptapp, select 1.0.2, and press ok. AppTapp should go thru the whole process, and may give you an error. Close AppTapp and open it again. Run AppTapp again on 1.0.2, and it should complete without an error.

***If at this step you do not see the "Waiting for Activation" screen, you will have an extra step. if you dont skip below the star.

*)If you have a Yellow Triangle still, you wil need to go into the folder you unzipped ibrickr. There is a icon that says iphoneinterface.exe. Double click, and you will get a prompt you can type from. Type "setenv auto-boot true" then hit enter. Then type "saveenv" then hit enter again. Last type "fsboot" and hit enter again. Close the command window, and after about 5 seconds you will see the Activation screen on your iphone, you may have to turn off and back on.

5) Open Itunes, let it "see" the iphone, close itunes, then Run AppTapp one last time, then Run Paycay to Jailbreak.(if you need detailed instructions for these steps look at my previous guide steps 7 and 8)

Thanks for the prompt reply gaz919. Here's what I got at the end of restoring:

a dialog box simply says "the iphone xxx could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (6)".

and on the iPhone a screen with the itunes icon and sync cable appear, but not the yellow triangle of 1.0.2

apptapp for some reason is very slow, and jumps out a window saying connection failed.

but i think the thing is i need to see the yellow triangle before jailbreaking it right? if it's the cable and itunes icon screen, it should suggest that 1.1.1 is still in use.

So I guess what I encountered was it didn't restore my iPhone successfully to 1.0.2.

keep trying the 10 sec thing from the posts above is very important there are two restore modes one will not downgrade only the 10 sec one will downgrade keep trying till it works, or try another computer or use a old version of itunes. It will work eventually

Thanks. I still haven't got the 1013 error msg and the yellow triangle. I'll keep on trying. thanks for the replies. I'll report upon success.

maybe what i need to do is to re virginize it? although there hasn't been a easy to use tool to do it.
