[Gen. Discussion]Can Dev Team protect from malicious?
Ok, so i was talking to three of my friends that have iPhones (as well as me) and somehow the discussion of iPods and iPhones came up with the center being viruses.
Ok, so some might think right now, viruses will never and don't affect iPhones/iPods. Well, let me break it down the harsh way, there are viruses already for iPods [normal iPods not the iTouch].
Also, I want to refresh your memory with a little thing called 1.1.3 Prep. Yes, that was the first malicious code for iPhone, small and relatively [if you didn't have Erica's tools no problem] inoffensive, but nonetheless the first thing that was built with malicious software.
Anywho, back to the original discussion. We all know out there there are anarchist trying to bring down anything that is mainstream [either through violence, viruses (human or software) and/or other attacks] and seeing as the iPhone is becoming popular. Will the iPhone community have to worry about attacks on our beloved device?
If such attacks do happen and Apple acknowledges the attacks, will the Dev Team be able to somehow stop them? Remember, that these attacks may be nastier than our 1.1.3 Prep situation and that may take advantage of previously undiscovered bugs by the Dev Team (like Safari bugs or bugs through other things. Let's also recall the bug in Safari that was used to exploit the MacBook Air in the hacking contest making the Air the first laptop to fall to the onslaught.).
I am willing and have always come to accept the fact that the all powerful and omnipotent Dev Team will always watch over the community as long as we provide them all the support [morally, financially, or any other way] possible. Also, I am sure that Apple will somehow swallow their pride and call the Dev Team to help if necessary. However, the Dev Team may be too small when the iPhone is attacked as much as Windows OS.
I know, I know some of you might think this scenario might never be, and start calling me things. But I believe preparedness is always handy.
Well, comments on the issue or your thoughts on what may happen?
Edit - Well it has now started, the defense or our beloved device. TUAW reports that a McAfee aplication for the iPhone has been developed. Here is the inside scoop.
