battery shortened. nothing more.
We shorted one on purpose http://lpahome.com/slackers/videos/lipo.wmv
They really do smoke. One question, did you cry?
Well, we did all the software part, it was going ok, then we got to open the iphone, got the antenna part off, a bit difficult but not too bad. then I decided to go and look for something to try and pry open the metal part, after taking the 3 screws out, as I was gone, less than 2 minutes my friend, who was with me (he was just there to push the button when we got to the part were 2 people are needed) suddenly started to scream, I came rushing back, and the iphone was just sitting there, black stuff all over the table, as i went to pick it up, i burnt the tips of my fingers. it was HOT, very, very HOT.
I think he put something into the phone and somehow punctured the battery, but I am not sure. I had to put it in cold water for it to cool down. And it took a long time for it to cool down. Also there was a very strong smell, and unpleasant as well...any idea?? I am sure it did us no good...now I have a dead iphone...if only there was a software unlock....
did not cry, but really felt like crying...now, here in Africa, to try and get anew iphone, is not easy, this one was by chance, a friend was there when it came out and bought it 2 or 3 days after...and now how to get a new one...but now, how tom open it without it happening again?
Honestly, this is why people that are not used to work with ICīs and electrical stuff should not do stuff like the things Geo did...
Sorry to say, but you might have better waited.
You can sell it on Ebay, itīs the first iphone exploded!!:D
Itīs a joke, after this iīm shure iīm going to wait untill sw unlock:(
you might be correct, but hey, i think it was worth the try...any way, life goes on (with slightly burn fingers) and one day we will get another iphone (and maybe by then a software unlock will be out) and no more opening, but, if we get another one and still no unlock, I think we will try again, and this time be much more carefull. At least the next time round I would like to be there when it EXPLODES....but I think it will not happen again...I really don't know what my friend put into the iphone, he was not really able to explain it to me very well, but I have a feeling it the screw driver that we used to take out the 3 screws...
oh boy, thats disturbing. Is it maybe a good idea to drain the battery before opening the thing up then recharge it before doing the unlock? It may prevent some damage due to shorting...but then again, i am no expert .
Or just be a little more careful when you're opening the back casing. I think most people are sticking something in there and using the battery as a wedge without realizing it. You have to use the battery to wedge it a bit to slide something into the side, but too much force and you can easily puncture the battery. I used guitar picks and slightly dented the battery.
Sorry for your troubles. I really hope it works out for you to get another. You could always just send it back to Apple. They might replace it no questions asked just to avoid any more images like this from being distributed.
It's disturbing what we place right next to our heads isn't it? A Chinese man was killed by his motorola just a few weeks ago.
