Changing the "My Number"

Hello Everyone!

Before purchasing my iPhone I had a cell phone through Rogers (with a SIM card of course) and I moved to another province(I live in Canada). Still using the same SIM card Rogers changed my number. Once turning on that phone it sill shoed my old number as "My Number".

Using the same SIM card my old number is still showing as my current "My Number" on the iPhone. Given it is incorrect -and having searched I could not find out how to change said "My Number"

Does anyone know how to do so? If yes, step-by-step instructions would be amazing!!

Do this only if you know how to use the terminal and are aware what you are doing.

PLEASE DO READ IT OVER BEFORE YOU START DOING ANYTHING. THANKS!

Using an SSL Client (Providing you have OpenSSH or alike installed) OR
Install a Terminal Software onto the iPhone via Installer, such as Term-VT100

Type in:
launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist

And then:
minicom -s
Highlight "Serial Port" with your arrow keys
Press "A", Change your Serial Port device name to /dev/tty.baseband
and then EXIT
type "AT" then enter, it should return with OK

Now enter these commands, and press enter after each line.
AT+CPBS="ON"
AT+CPBW=1,"NUMBER",,"TEXT/CARRIER" (See below for more info)
AT+CPBR=1
AT+CNUM

NUMBER = the number you wish to change to
TEXT/CARRIER = whatever text string or your operator name, its up to you
for me I typed
AT+CPBW=1,"+85291234567",,"HK CSL"

After that, press "Ctrl+A" and then "Q"

Now enter this command
launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.CommCenter.plist
reboot (yes this is a command too)

Is there a "file" I can modify, say using iPhone Browser Application. its kinda like putty and winSCP... I can view everything (used it to copy in NES ROM files..and such.

It can only be done via PuTTY.

Please read the instructions carefully, we are using commands to write into your SIM card which is where your "Own Number" is stored.
We arent changing any "files" as such.

or if u dont wanna mess around or are kinda stupid with the iphone like me.....just get a new sim card.......may cost u a lil but atleast u wont blow up ur iphone or whatever

Geez, I can't believe no one gave you the easy reply yet. "My Own Number" is stored on the SIM, and can be changed easily in any other phone. Just take the SIM card out of the iPhone and put it in some standard GSM phone. Navigate to something like address book/SIM Card Options/ SIM Services and change it. then put the SIM back into the iPhone.

Not EVERY standard GSM has that feature and not everyone still has another phone handy.

(remove the spaces)

This method does not require you to disable the commcenter. You will need to download the program sendmodem and upload it to your iphone as instructed.
