After activating another iPhone (jailbreak/iAssign), it does see my WIFI networks and I am able to join one, but that's all.
No IP addresses are being assigned and no WIFI service or symbol at the top.
Any suggestions?

Try this:
Put it into Airplane Mode.
Then Settings:
>>General>>Reset>>Reset Network Settings
(the phone will turn off/on)
Take it out of Airplane Mode
Turn WiFi back on
Select your Wifi Network
Check DNS Server entries, manually edit these if necessary
try manually assigning a IP address, it sounds as though you are unable to gain a valid DHCP lease....Quote:
