Can I upgrade to 1.1.1?
I have a 4GB iPhone, using a 3G 64k Cingular SIM Card (AT&T). I currently have firmware version 1.0.2, and do NOT want to brick my phone or cease it from functioning correctly, because I love my iPhone ;). So, this brings me to my question:
Can I upgrade to the new firmware, because technically I'm still on the AT&T network?
Thanks so much,
P.S. Does anyone know if using the same carrier (AT&T in my case) but different SIM card (Prepaid in my case) changes the baseband of the iPhone or is considered "Unlocked"? Because if it does, then I think that would mean a "No-go" on the upgrade.
Did you unlock the phone using iTunes and created an AT&T account? No software hack? Then yes, you can upgrade.
Did you download a program from any site other than Apple to unlock the phone? Or install 3rd party applications? Then I would say no, don't upgrade.
My friend is in the same predicament except all he did was download installer and install some games and changed his sound sets here and there. Now he is asking me if it is okay for him to upgrade to 1.1.2? I told him I was not sure since he technically did not do any software hacks to get his service? Is it safe to assume that he should just update and the worst that will happen is that he will need to reinstall some of the programs he obtained through installer?
