another newbie question

ive read the stickies but cant seem to find the right answer can some one put me in the right direction please

I have a 1.1.2 jail broke phone with an o2 pay and go sim can i use any itunes to put music onto iphone or does it have to be a certian version of itunes or can i use any but just dont update my phone
