[Advice] Can I use a 3g sim card (from three) ?

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.

In a couple of weeks I should receive an iPhone from the US and I was wandering if (after I unlock it) I can use a 3g sim card (from Three). I know, if it works, I won't be able to use the 3g services but I do not mind as long as I can do telephone calls and write sms'.

I tried to search the Forum but I could not find any thread about this, can somebody give me an answer?

PS Also, I tried to search the forum to see if there is a newbie section to introduce myself; but I could not find one, let me know if there is and I'll post something (reason: I also have a motorbike; I joined some bikers forums and, some of them get a bit crossed if a newbie does not introduce himself in the newbie section :) )

yes you are able to use a 3G sim.
keep inmind that if you have a 3G sim you will also have better reception and in the near feature if you decide to get the 3G iphone you will be able to use the 3G service..... once you get is activated of course

you can not use a 3g sim from three. The three sim checks for 3g activity whihc the iphone does not have. Three 3g sims only work in 3g phones.

Oh, that's not good then... are you 100% sure a three sim will not work on the iPhone.

If that's the case I need to get a new SIM.

Three sims definately do not work in the iphone. You'll need to get a Telstra, Optus or Vodaphone sim.

I can confirm that in the UK all sims work (i.e. Orange,Vodafone,TMobile,Virgin,O2,Tesco etc..)except the newest sims from the Three Network.

FYI – in case somebody else is interested

Here in the UK there is a SIM only deal with Virgin where for £20 a month they give you 300 minutes cross network, 300 text messages. The contract is for 6 month and, at the end of it, Carphone Warehouse give you back £120. After the 6 month you are free to leave or go for a different contract.

Basically it is a free (deferred) 6 month contract. ...Tempting...
