[2.0][Booting problem] Phone won't turn on

I jailbroke and unlocked my first gen iphone last night and now it won't turn on. It was working fine and was rebooted a few times without any trouble. Last night I synced it with iTunes (which took a very long time) and took it to work with me. It has been running a bit slow all morning and I thought nothing of it. A few minutes ago I rebooted it and now it won't boot.

When I try to boot it shows the pineapple with a chunk bitten out of it and then sometimes after this it shows a cartoon of a man with his hands in the air and some Cyrillic (my apologies if they aren't I am pretty ignorant in this field) letters in a text box over his head.

My questions are:

1. What is wrong with my phone

and

2. Is there anyway to fix it?

you can try DFU and restore to your custom FW again

Well the picture of Steve means it's in restore mode, when this happens you can connect the iPhone and restore the software through iTunes or you can try quitting the restore mode using some software.
But since the iPhone has put himself into restore mode I guess it means something went wrong and you should restore from iTunes instead.

I figured as much.

Would you guys advise me to use a different custom firmware? I am using one I found on bittorrent.

Also, is there any specific reason this would happen on a phone that was working problem free for over a day (I cracked it the night before last night, not last night as I posted)?

I am pretty sure the iTunes sync had something to do with it and I would like to prevent it from happening again (using my office phone blows).

i've read that the 2.0 is very unstable by itself, people using it with out jailbreaking or unlocking are reporting all kind of troubles and certainly jailbreaking it or unlocking it will not make it more stable.

Also people restoring backed up information from itunes are having more problems than people that are just starting from scratch.

Oh ok, so just re-import all of my music and contacts. Is there a way to delete the old files that iTunes has backed up just to make sure i don't in the future accidentally restore my iPhone?

That's right just re-import your music and contacts.

Not sure if there's a way to delete the old backup data but i know that the first time you connect the iPhone after you restore and activate iTunes will ask you if you want to restore an existence backup or if you want to treat as new phone, if you select treat as new then you will not be asked again if you want to restore any old backups.

I advise you use the firmware you find on Apple's servers ;)
Just let iTunes check for updates and when prompted select "Just download", iTunes will download the iPhone software and place it under ~/Library/iTunes/iPhone Software Updates/, PwnageTool 2 should be able to find it automatically.

Restoring wipes everything, bot data and settings so as long as it's on iTunes, Adress Book and iCal it will come back just by syncing.

What won't come back are notes and system settings, you should eMail yourself your notes (you can extract them from the backup but it's not a easy task) if you care about them.

I'm noticing few issues with the final 2.0 myself but it's nothing unbearable, the only thing that really annoys me it's a few bugs with the iPod that I'm not even sure depend on the iPhone software.

Well I reloaded everything and the phone works great now (except for Cydia being buggy)

I didn't happen to check your post before I did it however, is there a way to extract my notes from the backup in windows? I see all the Mac instructions but can't find any for windows vista :(.
