I tried to shut it down by holding the power button, and nothing. All it does is shuts the screen off and home button brings it back on.
It will not let me reboot.
What can I do??? (other than waiting until the battery dies) Any suggestions?

Have you tried power button + home button untill it turns off?
No, because I did not want it to go in the restore mode (DFU?). Should I try that???
By the way, it will answer a call, amazingly.
OK, I solved it... Pressed both Home and Power, after 5 seconds, screen went very dim, and soon white Apple logo appeared and the phone came back well..
Ufff..... That was kinda scary LOL
I was dreaming of a RESET button...
