PrePaid Working in Canada?
Hey Guys,
Does anyone know if AT&T/or older Cingular prepaid SIMs will roam in Canada (on Rogers) in an iPhone using the IASign method?
Thanks

It might. If this thread is correct, it may work in the Buffalo - Toronto corridor...

I'm going to try it once a Windows binary is available.

That is the thread that got me thinking and prompted me to post here

I believe im in said corridor
I just got my phone today, is there anything anyone would like me to try?
I'm in Cambridge, ON. 40 mins west of Toronto.

What needs to be confirmed is whether a (old?) Cingular prepaid SIM (or any of these other virtual operators http://www.prepaidgsm.net/en/usa.html) will roam on the Rogers network.
It's not ideal - but at least us Canucks can use this beast on our own soil - while paying a pretty penny of course, for the pleasure of doing so.
I have read that the GoPhone offering will not roam on Rogers.

That'll be interesting to find out. I have a feeling that nothing short of a full unlock will help us... There is the other option, which is to cross the border and go to an AT&T location in person. My numerous calls to AT&T suggest that this is the only way they'll activate post paid... Unless you know someone at AT&T. Anyone working for AT&T that would like to marry me?
No -- Nevermind, I'm already married.

Just for fun, I confirmed with an AT&T rep that there are no non-contract options that will allow you to roam outside of the US.
So unless we Canadians want a US contract, we currently only have the following options:
1) Continue to pray to the hacking gods
2) Follow the lead on the Cingular forum and see if there are any other pre-paid/non-contract SIMs that are affiliated with "The New AT&T" (e.g. old Cingular pre-paid SIMs) that will allow us to have a little fun on our own turf (i.e. roam on the Rogers network)

GoPhone is just AT&T prepaid name (just as Pay-As-You-Go is Rogers), so no, it won't roam in Canada.

I know. But as you can see in the forum link above, Cingular (now AT&T obviously) prepaid has been reported to roam on Rogers - hence my triple check that AT&T will not.

Edit: Sorry for the double post.
