Default Possible to check firmware version on box?

Hi, sorry if this has been posted before but I couldn't find it when I tried to search for it.

Is there any way that I can find out the firmware version of the iPhone without actually opening the iPhone box? Is there like a serial number or something on the back of the box?

    Krazy:
"Some 7RXXXX serial numbers have the new firmware"

    samsrex:
"i bought some today with 7R, 7S, 7T, and 7U, all are 1.0.2. most of them were 7R's."

    Ah ok, that kinda sucks.

I've never seen the iPhone box before... was hoping for some kind of exterior code on the box.

It was posted here somewhere that its the 5th or 6th numbers on the box that can tell you what fw it is.

Ok did a little search and I belive if the serial no. is 7R#######R0 then it is the old FW. If you see a 7S it might be the new FW.

Anyone bought it lately from Apple with new FW already on there to confirm this?
