Hey all,

in case this is the wrong subforum, please accept my apologies. In Germany and some part of Europe there is a digital Video Recorder Software called VDR very common among linux freaks and HTPC ppl.

There is a small tool coming from their community, which is called "vdrtube". I was playing around with it and it can create MP4 video files out of the recordings, offer a podcast link to download them to iTunes, and with a bit tweaking of the GUI Templates they will also directly play from MobileSafari.

Just wanted to share the nice finding I had made today. I am watching via WiFi already and its a lot of fun Will convert a few series tonight and load as podcasts. If you need language assistance PM me.

I worked with gonz, the programmer and here is an update:

* vdrtube also converts avi files, divx, xvid, mpeg, etc
* it will create a mp4 file which is quicktime compatible and can be streamed via wifi to your iPhone or iPod Touch
* it will also create a pod cast, which you can add to itunes and sync the mp4's to your device.

For streaming I created a small theme, which looks like this:

Especially the ability to stream videos on my home WiFi is what I like. And if I want a specific movie to be on the device I just get it through the podcast.
