Ok. I've spent some time reading stacks of stuff on here. (it's great!)

But I'm not sure I have the starting point for me. Please bear with me.

I have an iPhone 3G free by upgrade on my girlfriends phone account but she wants to keep her nokia (mad!)

I have a pay monthly account (different network) with data included but they don't do iphones.

So I have an un activated iphone which I want to unlock etc.

What is my next step? I think from what I've read I have to use my gf's sim to activate the phone (using itunes), then go through the process of restoring to install an old firmware, etc.

Is that correct or should I be doing something other than activating first with her sim card?

Currently I only have the emergency calls option on my nice new shiny iphone.

Very grateful of any help. Don't want to cock it up first time.

Well, the unfortunate lack of response led me to activate my phone using my gf's sim.

I did this, then used blackra1n to jailbreak, then blacksn0w to unlock.

All done inside 5 minutes. No need to do anything else. Very very very simple.

My phone now works with my sim perfectly. And I would recommend this to anyone.
