got an phone replaced in warranty .. it wasnt actiavted

my friend with an at and t card picked it up for me ,, this is what he emailed me

I got the phone back, but they insisted that I have to activate the phone there. So I gave my SIM card. Now my SIM card has a Data plan which costs extra 20/month. They told me to speak to AT&T to cancel it. At&T now tells me that they can't cancel it till I return the phone back to Apple.

If I don't return the phone to apple I will be stuck with 20/month data plan.

Now what do I do?

Ok, what? It's your iPhone or your friends? Why did he pick it up and not you? Just tell the AT&T guy its a friend's iPhone and he is only the messenger not the owner.

pay the 20 bucks???? idk ...

i dont live in the usa
and im not goin to be using at n t.. gonna unlock it for my local carrier

friend has another simple fone where he doesnt need to pay 20 bucks extra a month ..
he isnt that close a friend either ;/

will at n t cancel the data plan after a month ???they wanna charge 20 every month or they are asking to return the phone ..

tell them u just lost ur iphone... and thats why u r cancelling it...

Dont tell them you lost it, they may block the imei number. Tell them that you are the owner, show them a copy of the receipt, and then demand that the contract that was setup be recognized as null and void, which it is. Someone may not enter into a contract like this on someone elses behalf, and they should have confirmed your identity when starting the new contract.

When my iPhone's screen stopped working I took it back to Apple, they looked up the Serial and saw it was never "Activated" for 6 months.. They asked why, and I told them I.. never.. really got around to signing up for AT&T, yet [Shifty Eyes..]. They guy was real cool about it, but I needed to have an AT&T account..

I signed up for AT&T at the Apple store, got the phone replace, and immediately canceled my service the next day. AT&T was a real b*^#$ to deal with, I got hung up on a couple times until they finally went through, transfered me to their "Saves" department and canceled the service.
