Phone in permanent restore mode (and more!)
Hi I really hope someone can please help me, my phone has recently been upgraded to 2.2 but I would like to downgrade to 1.1.4 so that I can have the Installer icon back to put apps on the phone that way. When I downloaded the 1.1.4 firmware iTunes won't recognise it because the file type does not end in .ipsw which is what iTunes is looking for. The files in the .zip file do not contain a .ipsw file at all but I have tried downloading it in different places including Apple itself and it is all the same. How do I put the firmware on my phone when it is looking only for an .ipsw file which the firmware files from Apple are not please?

FIX = change the .zip extension to .ipsw (sometimes when downloading the firmware packs the webbrowser considers them an archive ie: ZIP file since there are other files in there u can extract if you had the need)
question = umm you dont really need to downgrade your iphone.. if you upgraded to 2.2 and used quickpwn on it you should be able to put installer.app and cydia.app

Hi thank you so much for your reply. Please can you tell me how to change the extension of the .zip file - I renamed it to .ipsw but then it added the .zip extension to the end of that so the file is now .ipsw.zip after the file name.
Thank you again for taking the time to reply to me.

ok i assume your on windows right? ok click on "MyComputer" in the menu bar click on tools, then folder options click on the view tab, then uncheck the "hide file extensions for known file types" then you should be able to change extensions
