Default Payment methods: may I pay the iPhone with mastercard debit card @ apple store NYC?

Hi, i'm italian and I'm gonna come to NYC next week. Since I don't have any normal (credit card such as Visa, American Express...) I was wondering if it's possible to buy an iPhone via my Mastercard debit card (in Italy we call it pre-payed) at the Apple Store in Fith Avenue.
    Thanks a lot, Paolo

It seems paying online at the US-Store with european credit cards does not work for the iPhone (at least with some of them). I tried, and got an email telling me, that I already reached the iPhone maximum purchase for online sales.
Actually the credit card was a real virgin. Never used before for anything, so I suppose, Apple makes no difference between a credit card that is full and credit cards that are not registered in the US.
