Anyone noticed that itunes 7.5 and 1.1.2 allows ringtones simply by rename the (converted) files to m4r and double click on it to become it available in itunes as ringtone? No more patching required i think...

MeCCA is the Framework that handles playing Ringtones. With the patched MeCCA you can add your own ringtones to the system ringtones directory, provided that the filename ends with a " ".

I've just been syncing my ringtones to my 1.1.2 iphone with iDemocracy and i've never had any problems...I never patched anything either.

No everyone likes to use iTunes to maintain their ringtones. The MeCCA patch allows for keeping the ringtones in the "system ringtone repository". So it's not erasable when you sync.

For example, if you customize a phone for your brother, then you can use the patched MeCCA, put that list of nice ringtones in the system ringtone diretory and give the phone to hm. When he syncs, iTunes will not erase the files.
