Default out of disk space, but moved apps already

i need help, i have used bosstool and moved ringtones, wallpaper, and apps,

    /private/var/root$ df
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
    /dev/disk0s1 307200 251004 53124 83% /
    devfs 18 18 0 100% /dev
    /dev/disk0s2 7622368 7112444 509924 94% /private/var

but I get endless spinner when i install a couple more apps. here i removed about 5 apps i havnt used for a while, so i gave myself some space, any ideas?

1.1.1, new installer, etc. i get my springboard back when i ssh in and delete an app or two?

    any help?

I get the same thing and I don't have 80 apps installed (maybe 40). I also use Categories to keep the springboard down to a page and a half.

But if I try to add another app, the iPhone will lock up completely. Nothing I can do with the iPhone itself can correct it. I have to SSH in, delete the newly added app, and then restart the springboard.

So I rarely add apps anymore if I'm not around a PC. And it seems like I have to delete one in order to make room for the other.

I noticed that when this happens M68AP.plist does not contain the new app. I have tried manually adding it but it doesn't seem to help.

I have plenty of room on both partitions so am not sure what the issue is. I suspect it is due to the symlink but don't know for sure.

I gotta say that the handling of apps on the springboard through M68AP.plist is is flaky.

I don't run Summerboard anymore. I deleted it when this problem first appeared thinking it was a Summerboard issue.

My latest jailbreak, two and a half months ago now, was via jailbreakme.com for 1.1.1 followed by OKtoprep and then jailbreak.jar (via windows.bat, I am running Windows).

Installer is the latest release from yesterday. I had the problem before that though (and I just had it happen this morning too--when running the newest Installer).

I'm pretty sure I can replicate it by manually installing an app, but I'll do it as a test to know for sure. I think it is the part where the M68AP.plist is supposed to get written with the new app entry. For some reason that doesn't happen.

And just to be clear, the "spinning wheel" never goes away when this happens. Usually, after about 5 minutes or so, it'll reboot on its own--and then stop at the Apple logo. If I manually force it to turn off before that--by holding home and sleep for 10 seconds--it also comes back and gets stuck at the Apple logo. I can't get out of it without SSHing in (or deleting via iBrickr--which happened to me once when I had SSH off, grrrr!).

Are you sure this is the same thing happening to you?

to clarify my problem is when i open installer, i install an app, it runs through installing, cleaning, and everything looks normal. I hit the home button to exit installer, this is when i get the spinner (normally for a couple of seconds) but this time it spins forever.......I have to force shut down, it then loads normal, i get a quick flash of the springboard, less than a second, then i get the apple startup with the spinner on top of the apple icon. i then ssh in remove the app, about 5 seconds later, my springboard pops up asking for my code.

Bingo, exactly the same thing I am getting. I also use a passcode BTW. I even tried mapping a double home press to Mobile Finder, Installer, etc. in the hopes that I could come up with a solution that doesn't require SSH or another machine.

BTW: I just replicated this issue by manually installing the same app the caused the problem via Installer. The same thing happened, so it looks like it's not Installer. I imagine this isn't a universal problem else there would be reports all over about it.

I could prolly restore and re-jailbreak to fix it, but I'd like to figure out what is causing it. My hunch is Summerboard (perhaps there is a remnant of it left behind on my iPhone). Other than that I'm thinking the symlink or perhaps the jailbreak method.

hey try this and see if you can replicate the problem

Settings --> Brightness, set Auto Brightness to off, and then restart the phone.

    let me know thanks!

I'm not sure what problem I'm trying to replicate. I already have the problem and my Auto-Brightness is set to on.

Are you saying that setting Auto-Brightness to off cleared up the problem for you? I could live with that as workaround.
