    Default Orange sim update problem.

    Hi,

Wasn't sure where to post this but this seemed like the right place. I have a 1.1.2 OTB Ziphone unlocked iphone and I'm using an orange Pay as you go sim. Everything works fine, except now and again I get an SMS saying 'Orange Sim Update'. After which I'm unable to get into my SMS messages, or even send create one via contacts>text message. The only way I've found to resolve this is by choosing 'Erase All Contents and Settings'. I would accept this as a solution, but it has done this twice now, and the thought of having to reset my contacts over and over everytime this happens I find unacceptable. So I was wondering if anyone else had a similar problem, if so, how did they resolve it?

Is there a way I can get to my SMS messages via my PC to delete the 'SMS Update' message, or even all the current messages stored?

    Thanks

i think orange has noticed your using a different phone so are sending you out the message settings for the iphone so you don't have to input them manually

What do you mean by the 'message settings'?

    Lightbulb

i am on orange in the uk too and had the same problem.
the sim updates are sent out every few months or so.
    not exactly sure why...

but, to solve the iphone standard sms app crashing when trying to open after receiving it i install smsd from installer.
    ran the app.
found the message, (will most likely be at the top).
    deleted it.
    uninstalled smsd.

then the standard sms app will run as normal.

while we're on the subject of sms, i dont suppose anyone knows why the time and date stamp are missing on some sms messages???

or if anyone has magically made a mms app that can receive AND send messages? no? i thought not.

Thanks for the reply. I can seem to get SMSd to work it just crashes to home screen when launched.Any idea how to correct that?

I know of swirlyMMS but I've never used it, not sure it receives mms though.

    Sorry mate.
If smsd doesnt work then i would probably just restore it.
or maybe install some of the other apps to see if that's affecting it and try smsd again.

i backed up all the important files using open ssh and winscp, like calendar notes, sms (dunno if you want to back that up - it may be the cause of your problems) contact list etc etc and i upgraded to 1.1.3 and unlocked, activated and jailbroke it using the new zibri gui app, then put back the files i wanted to keep, all in less than half hour.

all the necessary links to do that are in this forum, and the ziphone app speaks for itself.

the only thing thats pissing me off about the iphone, is the stupid fucking ballbag shitty no signal when i put the phone in sleep mode.

but hopefully someone soon will sort that out soon on another thread...

yeah i'm sure there's one in this forum somewhere yes.
use search, then advanced, then select to search within the iphone sub-forum.

on another note, i found out how to solve my no signal when in sleep mode by reading zibris troubleshooting file.

under general, then reset, i then selected reset network settings!
seems a bit obvious now i guess.
there is a reset all settings option also, maybe this could help your sms problem???

anyway, for me, happy days, a fully functioning iphone on pay as you go. ahhhhhhhh

Ahhh I sorted the winscp thing, went on the website. Thanks though. I used the reset all settings thing before, but it was annoying having to set up all my phone again. But I suppse now I can use winscp that's a problem solved. I've only had this thing three days, so I'm bound to have some problems to overcome. I installed isms, but I want to see what smsd is like - there seem to be more features and I just hate it when something just doen't work.
