I just spoke to o2, who said if you dont activate the iphone in 14 days they will bar the phone? is this true or not??

Amazingly Knowledgeable

Check the terms and conditions on the phone. I don't think they can do that.

That would be a very nasty thing to do...
They get £55 out of me a month (£25 simplicity+£7.50 bolt on + international calls (when away from skype, and the odd roaming).
If they barred my phone then that would be local to the network (its not stolen I have the receipt!) and they would loose a customer.

say if we buy the phone from the o2 shop, use 'fake' activation and jailbreak do you think they could block it? i've checked the o2 recipet that they photocopied in the store and there is no iphone IMEI or Serial on the reciept.

the IMEI is recorded at Point of Sale when they scan the iPhone box.
Cheers,

PS.
It would be very illegal of them to block the phone as it is illegal to do so without authority of the owner of the device.

ive had my 02 for a month now and nothing as change so i very much doubt they will bar the phone it will cost them too much in revenue and as of yet all uk phones can only be used on o2 so that would kill of any profit made by using their sim card

o2 NOT BARRING UNLESS
If your an o2 customer, and your direct debit fails or your not
paying your bills they will not ONLY BAR BUT BLACKLIST your iphone
or any other mobile. So iti would be useless on all uk networks.
now the good news.
i bought mine from o2 (never activated it with o2)
jailbroke it, and turbosimed it and have been using it
on orange for the last 1 month.
moving to tmobile now as their data rates are better.
dont worry about them banning the mobile for not activating it.
but if you dont pay your bills god help u .

Data rates might be better on T-mobile but there is no edge support (slow).
I had the opportunity to use edge with 100% edge coverage (in all GSM supported areas including some outreaches in the mountains) in Norway a few weekends ago.
Edge is quite speedy when you have it everywhere and the phone is NOT constantly switching down to GPRS...
My experience of edge on 02 is awful.
I can get edge on Hyde park corner, London but if I travel 1.5 miles up to Kilburn I loose edge and just about everywhere else there is no edge.
Strangely I can get edge in the woods just outside my home town just off the Motorway but not at home (1 mile away).

Orange have a special offer on at the mo (well they still did last week) £6 per 30Mb
I just got my bill and all is ok no extra data charges this month
