To be honest i'm not a 100% about OSX. All you need to do though is use a program to copy the virginizer files and then copy the seczone.backup back to your computer after it has run.

Every other step is done on the iPhone itself. Including issuing the virginizer commands.

Thanks for posting the guide. I think I'm going to bite the bullet tomorrow. I'm the same as the original poster. Everything works great in 1.0.2 and I *hate* to mess with it, but I can't find a way to patch the TIFF exploit without upgrading.

I'm planning to use ssh over wifi instead of mobile terminal (for virginizing). Seems ok based on the original virginizer docs, but thought I'd mention in case somebody had problems running the virginize code over wifi.

    Thanks

    jeanmib,

I have unlocked and upgraded a great number of iphones for friends. I know how you must feel, but be reasured that there are many good guides out there. It's not as complicated as you think. The improvements are not great but worth it. Most of the developers are writing code that runs on 1.1.1. Cheers, CEB

As for what you get from the upgrade (crossposting from another thread I replied to):

    * louder speaker and receiver volume.

that's the main reason i updated to 1.1.1, i was hoping the volume issue would be addressed....unfortunately, my volume (both speaker and handset) is still quite poor

One other advantage that no one has mentioned yet is that 1.1.1 has improved stability. I never used 1.0.2, but I know from experience with 1.1.1 that it almost never crashes. Maybe I never do much crazy, but I've read iPhone reviews from months ago (pre 1.1.1) and one downside they mention is stability which doesn't appear to be a problem to me.

    Just my 2 cents.
